Q1. Can iron kettles be used with IH?

A. Yes, it can be used with IH.

kanakeno iron kettles can be used with most heat sources such as gas stoves, induction stoves, reflective stoves, camping gas burners, and charcoal fires.

* If you use an iron kettle with IH, please check the corresponding bottom diameter size of your IH. If the size of the bottom diameter is not supported, it may not respond.

The bottom diameter of the iron kettle of kanakeno is 8 cm to 8.5 cm.Please see the product specification list for details.

Q2. Do you have a recommended portable IH stove?

A. I recommend Dretec's DI-218IH cooker "Minitura" . This IH is compatible with iron kettle bottom diameter from 8 cm.

Q3. Can the iron kettle be used on a reflective stove?

A. Yes, the kenkeno iron kettle can also be used on a reflective stove. In addition, it can be used with most heat sources such as gas stoves, IHs, camping gas burners, and charcoal fires.

Q4. Is it true that you can replenish iron with iron kettle hot water?

A. It has been academically proven that iron is eluted in hot water boiled in an iron kettle, and most of it is divalent iron that is easily absorbed by the body.

By drinking Tetsubin plain hot water, you can replenish iron in a natural way, and you can easily incorporate it into your daily life. We recommend that you use it as a supplement with your daily meals.

However, please note that iron kettles with enamel processing inside the iron kettle cannot be replenished with iron.

*All kanakeno iron kettles are manufactured so that iron can be replenished.

Q5. What is the difference between the iron kettle of Nanbu Tekki and the colorful tea pot?

A. An iron kettle is a tool for boiling hot water, and a tea pot is a tool for making tea by putting the hot water in it. Some of them are made for both purposes, but if they are not, please do not use them for any purpose other than their intended purpose. It is very dangerous because it may cause damage or accidents.

In addition, iron kettles can be replenished with iron by drinking boiling water, but tea pot cannot be replenished with iron because the inside is enamel-processed. * Even if the iron kettle is enamel-processed on the inside, iron cannot be replenished, so please be careful when purchasing.

Q6. What should I use for boiling water?

A. It is okay to use tap water at home.

Boil tap water in an iron kettle to soften the odor of chlorine and make the hot water mellow and delicious. (* The taste of water is slightly different depending on the area where you live.)

For details, see "Basic usage" here.

Q7. Can I use it even when I am abroad?

A. You can use it. kanakeno's iron kettles can be used with most heat sources, so you can boil water as usual wherever you are. The strength of the firepower may differ depending on the country or region where you live, so I think it is better to start with low heat and see how it looks. In the case of gas, use it with a strength that does not cause fire from the bottom of the iron kettle, and use IH with a medium or lower heat.

You can also use it in the same way if you live in a country or region where tap water is hard. Hard water contains more minerals than soft water, so it is easier to get limescale. It is very good for the iron kettle to add limescale, so please use it as much as you can.

Q8. Do iron kettles require special care every day?

A. There is no special care. If you do the "basic usage" , use up as soon as the water is boiled, open the lid and dry the inside with preheating, no special maintenance is required. If it gets dirty, wipe it off with a soft, wet (or dry) cloth, and if the surface is wet, boil it over low heat. * Please be careful not to heat more than necessary.

It is the best maintenance to use the iron kettle every day as much as possible, so try to use it a lot in your daily life.

Q9. I received an iron kettle, but I don't know how to start using it.

A. Please boil some water in the iron kettle a few times before the first use in order for the iron kettle to be ready for use. Please boil water a few more times if there are any iron odor remaining. You can drink the boiled hot water once it becomes clear.

Also, Please use the kettle every day for at least the first two weeks.

Q10. Please tell me the precautions when boiling water.

A. When boiling, please do not overfill the kettle. It should be filled to a maximum 80% of capacity. . If there is a lot of water, hot water will blow out from the spout when it boils, which is extremely dangerous.

We recommend that you slowly boil the gas / IH on low to medium heat for about 10-20 minutes. By doing so, you can enjoy plain hot water with a more mellow taste and delicious taste.

In the case of gas stove,  the change in the color of the bottom of the iron kettle that the fire hits is noticeable. Please heat with low to medium heat so that it does not protrude from the bottom of the iron kettle. If you want to minimize discoloration, we recommend using it with IH.

Q11. Something like red rust came out. Is this ok?

A. Unless the boiling water looks murky or the taste of water is rusty, you can use it as it is.

About a week after starting to use the iron kettle, reddish brown spots will appear inside, and depending on the water quality, white limescale will be attached about 10 days after starting to use it. This is a natural reaction and should never be washed or removed. Also, please use it every day for at least the first two weeks.

If you find it difficult to make your own judgment, please register kanakeno's LINE registration form enclosed with the iron kettle, and then feel free to contact us with your photo. The kanakeno Tetsubin Concierge welcomes your questions.

Q12. I would like to see the example of an iron kettle  that is already used.

A. This is an iron kettle that has been used for about three years at the cafe "Ocha to Tetsubin engawa".

The color of the outside of the iron kettle gradually changes as it is used.

Such changes are normal, and the degree of change varies depending on how they are used and how often they are used. Please enjoy the aged beautification of the iron kettle that changes its texture each time you use it.

In addition, the limescale inside the iron kettle grows little by little, and delicious plain hot water is boiled every day. There is also red rust, but this is normal. (Left side of the above photo, the iron kettle used for about three years.)

If the boiling water becomes murky or the water you drank is rusty, please do "maintenance that you can do by yourself" that I will introduce next FAQ.

For your reference, I will show you an iron kettle that I have been using every day for about 35 years in the studio. No special care has been taken, but the color has gradually aged in a beautiful way without any noticeable stains.

And this is the inside of the iron kettle. The white limescale is built up beautifully. This limescale makes the water mellow and delicious, and it is also effective as a rust preventive.

The more you use the iron kettle, the more it will show the unique texture of the iron kettle. Please enjoy the changes that occur in the process of growing the iron kettle.

Q13. Please tell me the maintenance that I can do myself when my iron kettle gets rusted.

A. Wrap green tea or black tea in a cloth package, then put it into the iron kettle and boil with water for 10-20 minutes. Tannins, the components of green tea, will react to iron, making the inside color black after you boil the tea leaves for a few times. Then you can use the kettle again if the boiled water is clear after coming to a boil.
Unless the boiling water looks murky or the taste of water is rusty, you can use it without maintenance.

Q14. I'm worried if I can use an iron kettle properly. Do you have any support services?

A. kanakeno provides two support services for all those who purchase kanakeno's iron kettles so that they can lead their daily life with iron kettles with peace of mind. One is "Lifetime Warranty Support", which allows you to repair the iron kettle for free when it is rusted, and the other is "Daily Support", which allows you to feel free to consult about the iron kettle with LINE. * Lifetime warranty support is free up to 2 times and charged after the 3rd time.

Q15. Half of the iron kettle was burnt  after burning it in the air. Is it eligible for lifetime warranty support?

A. Yes, it does.

Lifetime warranty support can be repaired up to 2 times free of charge. You can use it at your favorite timing.

*Customers are responsible for shipping costs.

Even if the iron kettle is burnt due to empty heating, it can be used as it is as long as there is no damage such as a hole in the iron kettle body.

If you find it difficult to make your own judgment, please let us know and send us messages with the photos via LINE.

Q16. Please tell me how to keep it when it will not be used for a long time.

A. When storing the iron kettle for a long period of time, dry it completely, then place newspaper or desiccant inside the iron kettle and dust it off before storing it.

Dust can cause moisture to collect, which can lead to rust.

Even if storing for a long period of time, please open the lid once a month to let air flow through and wipe gently with a soft cloth. If possible, it is ideal to use it about once a month.

Q17. Is it okay to add water and boil immediately after using up the boiling water? Will the iron kettle be damaged?

A. It's okay to boil it immediately after using up the boiling water. As long as the temperature is high enough to boil water, pouring water immediately will not significantly affect the quality of the iron kettle.

When pouring water, there is a risk of getting burned due to steam, so do not pour water directly into the iron kettle from the tap. Use a cup or other tools instead. The steam rising from the spout of the iron kettle is very hot, so please be careful.

Do not pour water if the iron kettle is hotter than when it is boiling such as when it is boiled in the air. It may damage the iron kettle and is very dangerous. In that case, turn off the heat immediately and leave it as it is until the iron kettle cools. Check that there are no holes in the bottom of the iron kettle, and if there is no damage, you can use it as it is without any problem.

If you find it difficult to make your own judgment, please send us a message and photo of it via LINE.

Q18. Is Noshi available for gifts?

A. Yes, it is. Please feel free to contact us by email for details.

Q19. What are the three round patterns under the spout?

A. It is the logo mark of kanakeno.

鉄瓶刻印

This logo mark represents the traditional technique used in Nanbu Tekki called "Mushikui", which is engraved on all kanakeno's iron kettles.

Q20. The red color of the Akai Ringo iron kettle is a color I have never seen in Nanbu iron kettle. What kind of material do you use it for?

A. All kanakeno iron kettles are painted using natural lacquer. In addition, all the lacquer used is in accordance with the Food Sanitation Law, so even if you eat or drink pieces of lacquer, there is no health problem.

Q21. Isn't there possibility that I should be worried about a rash caused by lacquer?

A. The lacquer used for painting is completely dried by a method called "Yakitsuke"(baking). There have been no problems with rashes in the past, but if you have experience with rash symptoms, you may want to refrain from using it just in case.

Q22. Sometimes something like black powder floats in plain hot water. Is it okay to drink this?

A. It is thought that some of the surface layer of the oxidized film formed inside the iron kettle during the rust-proofing process called "Kanake-dome" has turned into a powder. The powdery substance itself will sink, so if you are drinking hot water, please remove it or leave hot water a little to remove it.

*When you start using the iron kettle , be sure to  do Q9's preparation. In rare cases, some part of the brushes used for painting may be mixed in, but be sure to remove it with Q9"s preparation.
