Kakawatori Daisuke's iron kettle mat has arrived.
Kagawatori is a creative activity in Uruma City, Okinawa Prefecture, based on the "things that exist in Okinawa."
We propose and present to exhibitions both within and outside Okinawa Prefecture and abroad the production of folk tools and toys using Okinawan plants, as well as the shift in value of tiles damaged by Shuri Castle, pumice stones washed up in the sea in Okinawa, scrap materials and old wood.
This iron kettle mat, which was made for iron kettles, was also made using Tsukimpo and Teruma Beag (Igusa) grown in Okinawa, which Kagawatori continues to produce.
Mossipads, which are rarely seen in Honshu, are plants that grow naturally in Okinawa and can be found everywhere. Regarding rush, they are given away things that could not be used as tatami mats and are made based on that.
What could have been overlooked or abandoned would be revived as a new and valuable tool, by Kagawatori-san.
I thought it was wonderful to see the activities that use local materials to connect the tools, which are filled with the wisdom of our ancestors, to the future.
Although Morioka City and Uruma City are far from each other, I would be happy if they could feel the region and culture through their tools.
